Optimum Processing of Absorbable Carbon Nanofiber Reinforced Mg–Zn Composites Based on Two-Level Factorial Design

To prevent a premature failure, absorbable magnesium implants must possess an adequate mechanical stability. Among many ways to improve the properties of is by particle reinforcement, such as using carbon nanofiber (CNF). This work reports experimental design for optimum materials and processing CNF-reinforced Mg–Zn composites based on two-level factorial design. Four factors were analyzed: percentage CNF, compaction pressure, sintering temperature, time, three recorded responses: elastic modulus, hardness, weight loss. Based design, degradation resistance reach its at composition 2 wt % 400 MPa 500 °C temperature. The analysis variance reveals significant effect all variables (p < 0.0500) except time > 0.0500). modulus hardness their highest values 4685 60 Hv, respectively. minimum maximum loss after days immersion in PBS are 54% 100%, concludes temperature main affecting composites.
